Hi,
Last week, we submitted initial design report. For this term we will also make a presentation about our project and submit the detailed design report. I were dealing with data mining part, but after initial design report it became obvious that we will not need too much data mining. We may just use few basic data mining algorithms and thats all. Then I decided to focus on presentation layer of the project. When we look at the people profile at SMEs at Turkey, we can see that most of them even does not know to use basic Internet browser. So, we must present the reports and charts in user-friendly way. Just like the popular books like "bla bla for Dummies", we will design the presentation layer like "UI for Dummies". Actually, it will ease our work since the technical details will very few. I am very curious about the last product we will get by June. See you next week...

Hi all,
This week, i started to think on detailed design report and started to reseach about this. We will some additions and a bit correction on idr. After these operations, our last design report will be ready i think. While designing, i think we must start to consider tecnical issues that is how we will implement our design i.e. bottlenecks, challenges, scalibility and platform issues.

This week, in order not to have any problems because of the tight schedule we have in the beginning of January I started to think about and sketch some outline about the presentation that we will give on January 4th. By attending the first presentations of our classmates and listening the feedback from our instructors I have a better idea about how our presentation should look like and how it shouldn't look like.

Hi all,

This week i have thought on architectural design and database design issues. We have completed our ER diagram with Abdullah.
As architectural design, we have decided to imlement famous MVC (model-view-controller) architecture in our project. Our architecture simply consists of three packages, View package, Controller package, Model package. View package is responsible for how data is presented to the end user. Controller package is responsible for actual business logic and processing of data. Data concentrating related sub-packages and data mining related sub-packages are all in this package. Model package is responsible for database actions.

Weekly Report (Dec. 11 - Dec. 16/ Cihan BAHRAN)

I concentrated on how to write the initial design report that is due this Friday and discussed the matter with my groupmates. I have worked on the data flow diagram and still working on it. Since we are planning to have a generic framework business intelligence software, specifying the data, control or function elements of our project is not very easy. I think we are handling the situation with more attention than we did in the requirement analysis report and expect that this report will be a major guideline for the second semester.

this week me and hakkı continued to study on our initial design report. we have prepared an er diagram, constructed class diagrams,tables, software and graphical user interfaces. we have also studied on architectural design and decided to use mvc - model view controller- in our project. there are some packages in our project and they will be seen in our initial design report.

for gui part, i have searched on the net for good design tricks and come up with some nice rules of thumb. some of them are : the colors used, number of clicks to reach a content, use of flash and use of frames in a page. since our implementation will be a web based solution, our gui is like a web site. the details will be seen soon.

this week i have mainly focused on initial design report. for the report, we have made a job assignement for each group member. my job is preparing user interfaces and i have been studying on it since last week. im using visual studio and netbeans for interface designing. in each of them, i have constructed a web application and adding the main features of the system such as menus, charts, graphics.


nice and user friendly interface design is an important part of software projects. it is more important in our project because our customer profile necessitates simple and easy to use design. so im trying to produce some nice applications. hope to succeed.

Hi all,

I researched about our "database design" in this week. Cemil and me, we have made some drafts about database design issues. Some points in our design needed to be clarified, so we will show our drafts at tomorrow meeting.

Also, i made some screenshots about user interface. These are some graphics and charts. These screenshots will be used in Initial Design Report. see you on meeting.

This week I continued my studies on both data mining and JDM. I especially focus on the beneficial features of JDM api and I think about to use these features in our project. On the other hand, we should submit the Initial Design Report until 10 december. Database design constitutes very important part at our ultimate goal in the project. The database we construct should be consistent with the data obtained at the end of the data mining phase. So, database design and selection of data mining algorithms and related should be consistent so that we can query the database accordingly. Since I have a very busy week, I were not able to thşnk about database design actually. Next week, while writing the initial design report, I am planning to finalize the selection of data mining algorithms and the associated database design. See you..

Hi all,

This week, i researched about initial design issues a bit. i looked at the examples of BI applications, i examined snapshots, tutorials and videos about these applications. some pictures i downloaded have helped me, especially where we will use which visual pattern and how we will use. as everyone knows, easiness of use of a program is the most important part of a software.
